Continuous equipment upgrades lead to frequent fastener BOM adjustments: strength grade upgrade, surface treatment change, length or head modification, switching from carbon steel to stainless steel or adopting custom parts. Without standardized verification procedures, information desync among design, procurement, warehouse and production causes mass wrong parts, assembly defects and even structural connection failure.

1. Dimension adjustment: changed bolt length causes mechanical interference, insufficient grip length or incomplete tightening;
2. Material upgrade: switching between carbon steel and stainless steel ignores thermal expansion difference and torque recalibration;
3. Surface finish modification: switching from zinc plating to dacromet changes anti-corrosion performance and fails outdoor requirements;

3. Hidden risks of unauthorized substitution

Identical length does not guarantee interchangeability. Longer bolts may collide internal components; shorter ones result in insufficient thread engagement and reduced joint strength.

Strength grade cannot be swapped arbitrarily. Lower-grade fasteners cannot replace high-strength ones. Upgrading fastener strength requires checking bearing capacity of clamped components to avoid surface crushing.

Coating thickness variation may alter effective thread diameter and create abnormal turning resistance.

4. Disposal strategy for obsolete fastener stock

Complete stock take after formal BOM switch. Parts compatible with legacy after-sales equipment can be reserved as maintenance spares. Incompatible stock shall be evaluated for rework, return or liquidation to avoid long-term capital occupation.

5. Coordinate BOM updates with MRO suppliers
